The process of manufacturing silicon consumes large amounts of energy and chlorinated compounds.
During the manufacturing of the solar value chain some of this silicon is lost as scrap and as manufacturing rejects.
- Polysilicon: pop corn defects
- Ingots: kerf, broken bits and chips
- Wafers: broken wafers
- Cells: broken wafers and cells including partially processed cells
Capturing this silicon via recycling and upgrading it to solar silicon specs is a lot cheaper and environmentally friendly than manufacturing virgin silicon.
Poseidon Solar can provide “crucible ready” silicon that ingot manufacturers may use directly in the crucible along with virgin poly silicon to make new ingots and wafers
